The humor that your main character tried to convey was so and so.Did enjoy it except a few issues with the camera angels.. So far so good. HOWEVER, the game logic is tied to the framerate. Playing in fullscreen seems to lock it at 60, but borderless fullscreen can present a problem if you use a display higher than 60hz.. In terms of pure mechanics, Voodoo Vince is a pretty basic 3D platformer of the era. You have a 3-hit combo, a spin attack that also extends your jumps, a double jump, a glide and eventually a grapple. You collect life and energy upgrades as well as extra lives, and that's about it. The only part of the gameplay that ties to the "voodoo" gimmick is essentially a zone-clear bomb that has different cool animations associated with it. It's about as conventional as they come.I lead with this somewhat negatively tinged comment because I want to make it clear that Voodoo Vince is one of my favorite 3D platformers entirely due to its aesthetics and level design. The simple moveset Vince has can be applied to a seemingly endless number of situations by the cleverness of the designers. A maze in a house of mirrors over a bottomless pit, a calming forest treetop where you swing between glowing mushrooms, various ordinary areas like alleys and docks warped by zombie dust, a model train set, a factory where you have to set up the assembly line correctly to make cute cartoon animals into sausage- nearly every level is memorable in some way. Aside from the level design being mechanically engaging, it's also aesthetically memorable. The game combines a Psychonauts-ish warped irreverence with the Katamari series' reverence of mundane tiny objects viewed from the perspective of a tiny character, topped with a dash of Cajun flair and some of the best music hands down in any platformer. Vince is also an appealing hero- snarky furries are a dime a dozen in this genre, but Vince comes across as a hardbitten grouch who occasionally lets a little joy through in a one-liner or an excited cheer at something fun happening, and also isn't unwilling to (comedically) express fear.All this is to say is that Voodoo Vince expresses a point I've often found neglected in other platformers- the importance of level design, which is sometimes neglected in favor of making the player character have a varied moveset- and expresses it more fully than most. Besides that, it's still a fantastic platformer.. One of my favorite games got the remaster it deserved.. probably the only mascot platformer i know of whose main gimmick is screen nukesseriously though, this is a solid game if you're into platformers, regardless of whether you grew up with the classic xbox or not. excellent port, controls well, def an entertaining and stylish romp for those into the genre.
